Overwatch League will sell new teams – at higher prices

“The Overwatch League has increased overall engagement with the franchise, between viewership and gameplay,” Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Morhaime said in the call. “The average watch time is over an hour each night. It’s a whole new avenue for players to express their passion.”

The company plans to launch new initiatives to tie the playing experience with the viewing experience, allowing viewers to train to be the next pro player, he said. The company also plans to make some changes to improve the game for esports viewers.

“We’re very excited in the reaction and interest in new expansion teams,” Morhaime said, adding that new teams won’t get in for the same rates as the originals. “I’m pretty confident to say that the price is going to go up.”
